Founded in California in 1999 by Mike Carroll and Rick Howard, Lakai Limited Footwear emerged from the creative world surrounding Girl Skateboards. Rather than simply endorsing another shoe company, the two skaters helped shape footwear around the demands of street skating and the needs of a close-knit team.
Lakai built its reputation with recognisable silhouettes such as the Cambridge, Manchester and Telford, blending everyday looks with skate-ready construction. Its place in skateboard filmmaking is equally significant: Fully Flared, released in 2007 and directed by Ty Evans and Spike Jonze, remains a landmark production. The business and team have changed over time, but that legacy matters. At BUD, Lakai combines practical footwear with a history of groundbreaking video parts and an unmistakable connection to the Crailtap era.
