Hard Luck MFG: bearings with roots in Southern California skating

Hard Luck's story began in 2001 as a wheel brand whose original logo was drawn by Mark Gonzales. Its artwork became part of the brand's visual identity. In 2014, Steve Luther gave the name a new direction built around Southern California skate and street culture. Bearings became one of the clearest expressions of the relaunch, alongside grip and, eventually, apparel.

The brand introduced six-ball bearings as a notable part of its range, focusing attention on a component many skaters barely notice until it needs replacing. Smooth, consistent rotation depends on the bearing and how it is maintained, making it an important detail of any setup. Hard Luck combines that practical side of skating with a strong graphic identity and a history that reaches beyond the current hardware catalogue.
