First released in 1993, 411 Video Magazine made skateboarding feel connected long before clips could be shared instantly. Issued on VHS, it mixed professional profiles, competitions, local scenes and recurring features such as Chaos, Wheels of Fortune and Metrospective. Its debut issue included Jeremy Wray, Ray Barbee and footage from the Brooklyn Banks.
For a generation of skaters, every new 411 tape offered an education in tricks, places and personalities. It also gave lesser-known riders a platform between full-length company videos. The 411VM name still recalls a physical way of discovering skating: waiting for a release, replaying a favourite section and heading outside to try something seen on screen.
