New Deal Skateboards arrived in 1990 through the combined efforts of Paul Schmitt, Steve Douglas and Andy Howell. At a moment when street skating was transforming the industry, the company brought a DIY aesthetic to its catalogues, graphics and films. Its early team included Ed Templeton, Danny Sargent and Howell, each contributing to a new visual language for skateboarding.
The video Useless Wooden Toys helped define that shift. New Deal treated street art, hip-hop influences and skater-driven ideas as part of a single creative scene, rather than separating product design from cultural expression. Reissued boards revisit that heritage with graphics that still feel unmistakably early-nineties. At BUD, the label connects modern deck collections to one of skateboarding’s most influential turning points.
