Isle Skateboards: British skate films and modern art

Isle Skateboards emerged in Britain in 2013, started by Paul Shier, Nick Jensen and Chris Aylen following their time around Blueprint. Its boards and films were marked by considered art direction: restrained graphics, unusual compositions and a strong attachment to the streets the skaters actually used. The label became a touchstone for a quieter, more thoughtful kind of skate imagery.

Jacob Harris's 2015 film Vase, featuring riders including Tom Knox, captured that spirit with precise footage and a distinctive visual rhythm. Isle's thoughtful films and board graphics hold a special place in skate culture, reflecting an approach that gave design, filming and the distinct character of British streets equal importance.
