Powell Peralta was established in 1978 by engineer George Powell and professional skateboarder Stacy Peralta. Powell brought experimentation with materials and equipment; Peralta brought team vision and filmmaking. Their partnership created the Bones Brigade, whose famous roster included Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain and Tommy Guerrero.
The influence extended beyond hardware. The Search for Animal Chin helped define the possibilities of a skateboard video, while Vernon Courtlandt Johnson's artwork gave Powell Peralta some of the best-known deck graphics of the eighties, including the Ripper. These boards belong to a story of technical change, personal style and skate culture becoming visible to the world. At BUD, Powell Peralta remains a reference point for anyone interested in where modern skateboarding came from.
