Skateboard Café grew out of the Bristol scene rather than a conventional product launch. Rich Smith had already been filming edits under the name before he joined forces with Andrew Makepeace to develop the brand in 2012. Those videos gave Café a voice: local spots, friends skating together and a considered approach to filming.
Its decks combine food-inspired jokes with film references, photography and tributes to jazz musicians, creating a graphic identity that is playful without feeling disposable. Riders such as Korahn Gayle and Mike Arnold have helped take the Bristol perspective to a wider audience. The brand remains a strong example of how a local film project can develop into an international skateboard label while retaining its original sense of humour and curiosity.
