Sk8mafia grew out of San Diego's tight-knit street scene and the simple pleasure of filming your friends. The Sk8mafia Saturdays clips of the mid-2000s introduced a cast including Peter Smolik, Brandon Turner, Kellen James, Wes Kremer and Tyler Surrey. Their skating felt immediate, unpredictable and grounded in the places they knew.
A wider distribution agreement followed in 2007, but the identity remained that of a crew rather than a carefully manufactured image. The company's decks and graphics sit alongside its films as extensions of the same culture: hard street skating, long friendships and sessions where everyone pushes each other. Sk8mafia stands for the energy that comes when a group becomes bigger than any single rider.
