5Boro Skateboards was founded in 1996 by Steve Rodriguez and takes its name from New York City's five boroughs. Instead of borrowing a Californian identity, it built a visual language around subway rides, sidewalks, schoolyards and the distinct rhythm of East Coast street skating. The company grew alongside the local scene rather than above it.
Films including Word of Mouth and Join, or Die capture that spirit of travelling between spots with friends. Its deck graphics often reinterpret familiar cultural images with unmistakably New York character. A 5Boro board is therefore more than a logo: it is connected to the way the city is explored on a skateboard, one block and one session at a time.
