Darkstar Skateboards started in 1997 as a wheel project created by professional skater Chet Thomas with his younger brother Matt. Working from their family's garage in Huntington Beach, California, they set out to improve the urethane available for skating. The label later expanded into decks and complete skateboards.
Darkstar became recognisable for strong, often darker graphics and a range aimed at different ways of riding. Its beginnings in wheel development make the company's story more interesting than a simple logo launch. The original focus was the feel and reliability of equipment, and that practical connection runs through its broader range. Darkstar belongs to a generation of brands that joined technical products with a striking visual identity.
