Independent Truck Company was established in California in 1978 by a group including Fausto Vitello, Eric Swenson, Richard Novak and Jay Shuirman. Its mission centred on one of a skateboard’s most important components: the truck. Steering response, stability and the ability to withstand repeated impacts all depend on its design. Independent helped push truck technology forward as modern skateboarding developed.
The brand earned its reputation through skating and years of refinement rather than marketing alone. The successive Stage generations reflect changes in geometry, axles and materials, while Standard, Hollow and Forged constructions offer different combinations of weight and feel. Choosing the right truck width and height remains one of the most personal decisions when building a skateboard. Independent’s long history is closely tied to the practical experience of riding and turning.
