Founded in France in 1986, etnies emerged at a time when skaters were still wearing shoes never designed to withstand grip tape. Professional skateboarder Pierre-André Senizergues played a central role in taking the label to the United States and shaping its technical direction. Its early Natas signature shoe helped establish the idea of footwear developed specifically with a professional skater.
Decades of skateboarding have brought changes in construction, cushioning and outsole materials, but etnies has kept durability and board control at the forefront. Beyond footwear, the company has supported skate communities and environmental projects, including tree-planting initiatives. BUD looks at etnies as part of skateboard history: a label that helped turn the everyday skate shoe into a product developed around skating itself.
