Butter Goods: independent skatewear from Perth

Butter Goods was established in Perth, Australia, in 2008 by skateboarding friends Garth Mariano and Matt Evans. Long before their clothing reached a wider audience, they were filming their crew, making rough skate videos and experimenting with graphics. The project grew from a desire to represent their own scene rather than copy an established skatewear formula.

Music plays an unusually important role in Butter Goods’ identity. Jazz, hip-hop, vintage artwork and the atmosphere of 1990s street culture inform everything from logo treatments to seasonal prints. Relaxed trousers, denim, knitwear, shirts and graphic T-shirts combine loose skate-friendly shapes with deliberate detailing. The label has built a reputation for clothes that feel authentic to skateboarding while standing on their own as design.
